October 23, 2024 Release
Billing - Group
- Closed a gap on the Record Appointments page that allowed Group Appointments to get recorded even if one or more attendees were missing a billing diagnosis.
Card Manager
- An issue was resolved that prevented credit card removal from the Card Manager when the card was used for AutoPay plan.
Diagnosis Management

A new configuration was added to Treatment Plan Admin | Treatment Plan Types to allow users to configure, at the Treatment Plan Type-level, whether the "Assessment - Diagnoses" tab in Mobile Notes and the note pdf will display all of a patient's diagnoses vs only the provider's billing diagnoses.

- An issue that sometimes prevented the active treatment plan from attaching to a Mobile Note was resolved.
Patient Chart
- The UI of the Patient Chart | Measurements page was modernized. The new view allows for expanding multiple different measurement types to see their historical values at the same time.
- Resolved an issue that caused some documents in the Patient Chart to display Time in an incorrect time zone.
Patient Communications
- Now each time a Patient Reminder is sent to a patient, a new record is automatically added to the patient's Persons & Institutions | Patients | Outreach tab.
Patient Grid
- The table in Persons & Institutions | Patients was updated to load core patient details more quickly without needing to wait for all columns to become populated. - An issue that prevented saving one-off updates to Provider or Office Staff permissions when the user had one or more "Roles" was resolved.

Prospective Patient Insurance enhancements - When prospective patients enter insurance information in the online Prospective Patient form, they will now be able to:
- Enter secondary and tertiary insurance if needed
- Upload images of the front and back of their Insurance Card(s).
- When a Prospective Patient is converted to a patient, their insurance details will automatically carry into the patient record (if complete) or placed in the Demographics Updates Queue (if incomplete)

Report Center - MYIO
- Resolved an issue in which the Patient Portal Login Report was not recording when a patient logged in using Face ID.
Scheduler
- An issue that caused appointments that are an 'exception' to a recurring series to still show up as conflicts even after being deleted was resolved.
Secure Messages
- Resolved an issue that caused an "Error fetching macros" warning to appear in Secure Messaging for some users.
Treatment Plan
- Issues that sometimes miscalculated the next review date for a treatment plan was resolved.
- An issue was resolved that sometimes made it so a treatment plan popup asking the owner to open and save the treatment plan before previewing kept appearing even after the treatment plan changes were saved.
- An issue which caused treatment plan documents to display in the older format with larger font and spacing was resolved.
Waitlist
- When adding a new record to the waitlist, the "Expiration Date" will default to one year in the future.
September 25, 2024 Release
Availability
- Resolved an issue in which Availability search results showed incorrect times for recurring appointments that cross the daylight savings change.
Custom Forms
- Custom Forms users will be able to have forms automatically sent to the selected recipients. More information in the Custom Forms - Automated Packet Assignment article.
- Users can now resend an expired Custom Form request.
- The max length of field labels in Custom Forms was increased to 1000 characters.
Mobile Notes
- A way was added for supervisors on Mobile Notes to leave feedback for the note's owner, along with a new document status, "Feedback Given", so the owner can be alerted on the Unsigned Documents page and respond to the feedback. We've also changed the existing document status, "Ready to Sign" displayed in green, to "Final Signer" so you can filter and sort by this status on the Unsigned Documents page. Patient Communications
- Three new reminders were added to Patient Communications: the ability to send a communication to a patient at the time an individual appointment, a group therapy appointment, or a telehealth appointment is scheduled.
- The "Patient Communications Status" system report will now include the three new reminder rules: "Appointment Scheduled", "Group Therapy Appointment Scheduled", and "Telehealth Appointment Scheduled".

Patient Information Permissions
- Users that do not have the “Patient: Edit” permission will be able to view patient information regardless of whether or not there is a pending Demographic Updates Queue entry.
Prospective Patient Management
- In order to improve performance, the Prospective Patients table will be filtered by default to exclude the "Inactive" and "Converted to Patient" statuses.
Telehealth
- Resolved an issue where users could not initiate a telehealth session when the patient did not have a portal account even if guest access had been configured.
Treatment Plan
- An issue that caused an error message to display when you attempt to delete a system-created To Do for a Treatment Plan Review Reminder was resolved. These To Dos are not meant to be deleted manually; instead, the system updates/removes them automatically when the review is fully signed and made Active or the treatment plan is Closed. In order to make it more clear, the 'Delete" button is now inactive and explanatory messaging is added to the To Do popup.
- Now when you are editing a Treatment Plan Type, you can Preview on the General tab to see what the headers and logo will look like at the top of the treatment plan document.
- An issue that caused To Dos for all Treatment Plan Types to be labeled "Valant Treatment Plan" was resolved.
- A minor display issue that sometimes occurred when editing a Treatment Plan Type was resolved.
- An issue in which To Dos were not removed when the last treatment plan review cycles are removed was resolved.
- An issue which sometimes caused errors when trying to sign treatment plans was resolved.
- An issue which blocked access to some treatment plans was resolved.
- An issue which sometimes made it so a treatment plan could not be reassigned was resolved.
Unsigned Documents
- An issue that prevented some notes from being signed was resolved.
August 28, 2024 Release
Billing
- The Place of Service (POS) field is now displayed when creating or editing an appointment or charge.
- An issue that caused manually matched charges in the ERA | Charge Row | Action menu | Show Details window to display the procedure code name instead of the CPT code has been fixed.
Column Selector
- The column selector window is now fixed to the center of the page and expanded to show more options by default.
Custom Forms
- When adding a new element to a Custom Form, the new element will now appear below whatever you have selected on the page instead of always defaulting to appearing at the bottom of the form.
- When multiple forms are assigned, the next form will open automatically after the recipient finishes a previous form.
- An issue was resolved that caused the due date to show incorrectly by one day for Custom Forms with due dates on a Sunday.
Group Therapy Appointments
- Group appointments shown on the Mobile Site will now display the Group Name.
Patient Communications
- Users can now create up to 30 broadcast message templates. See Patient Communications - Broadcast Message Templates article for more information about Broadcast Message Templates.
Permissions and Preferences
- A new "Skip Documentation" permission is now required for a provider to have the ability to skip documentation for an appointment. Documentation can be skipped via the Appointment Dropdown | Document Session submenu as well as from the Action menu in the Unsigned Documents grid. In addition to this permission, the ability to skip notes requires a practice-level setting. "Skipped or Signed" must be selected (by a user with "Admin Access" permission) for at least one of these fields in Persons & Institutions | Practice | Preferences tab:

- A system update was completed to reduce latency when navigating to the Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patents page.
Treatment Plan
- An issue that required users to have the "Patients: View" and "Patients: Edit" permissions in order to see Treatment Plans was resolved.
- A new configuration to Treatment Plan Types was added so a logo can be attached to the treatment plan pdf. See Treatment Plan Types article for more details.
- An issue which sometimes caused Treatment Plan saving errors when migrated treatment plans had closed components with no value, but which were made required in the new Treatment Plan Type, was resolved.
To Dos
- An issue which prevented the Dashboard To Dos grid from automatically reverting to the default setting of only showing To Dos that are from today or earlier was resolved.
August 7, 2024 Release
Billing
- Resolved an issue that blocked users from accessing the patient list on the "Apply Patient Payments" page if the user was missing the Patient Clinical Charts permission.
- Resolved an issue which prevented Group Appointments from being recorded if included patients with a no-show or planned absence.
Custom Forms
- Resolved an issue in which a required field would show up blank on a completed Custom Form.
- Completed answers within a Custom Form now appear in darker text for better readability.
Macros
- Now users with the new "Manage Shared Macros" permission can create, edit, and delete editor macros and share them with all users at the practice. See the Shared Macros article for more information.
Mobile Notes
- An alternate MFT Clinical History Form was added to provide the option to skip the requirement for patients to answer pregnancy questions. See the Mobile Notes - Clinical Questionnaires article for details of the new form.
MYIO
- Added a landing page for the MYIO app to help users better understand their options.
- Resolved an issue where Appointment Request Queue times were off by one hour depending on timezone.
- An issue was resolved which caused MYIO password reset links to expire too quickly.
- An issue which sometimes caused an error when submitting an appointment request in MYIO was resolved.
Permissions
- A new "Create Patient Statements" permission now grants the ability for a user to create patient statements without requiring the full Easy Billing permission.
- A new "View Portal Payments" permission can be used to give a user view-only access to Billing | Apply Portal Payment without requiring the full Easy Billing permission.
- A dedicated permission was added for granting the ability for a user to Accept Payments in Scheduler in order to make it more clear and straightforward which permission controls this function (previously, it required a combination of the "View Copay" and "View Fees in Scheduler" permissions).
- A new "Prospective Patients: Delete" permission can be used to grant the ability for a user to entirely delete a Prospective Patient record in Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients.
- A new "Manage Shared Macros" permission so users can create, edit, and delete editor macros and share them with users across the practice.

Prospective Patient Management

- When a Prospective Patient submission includes an appointment request, the requested appointment details now appear on the Overview tab in Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients for better visibility.

- An issue was resolved that caused the "New Prospects" action item on the dashboard to sometimes show an incorrect number of new prospective patients.
Secure Messaging
- Providers using the Impersonation feature can now access the Secure Messaging inbox of the inactive provider they are impersonating.
- In Persons & Institutions I | Patients | Portal tab, changes made to the Secure Messaging settings are now audited in the History tab.
Treatment Plan
- Now when viewing a closed treatment plan, the "Show Closed Components" checkbox on the Components tab is selected by default, saving a click.
- An issue that required a user to have the "Treatment Plan Admin Access" permission in addition to the "Treatment Plan Reassign Owner" permission in order to reassign the owner of a treatment plan was resolved.
Unsigned Documents
- Resolved an issue that caused the number of "Unsigned Documents" in the Dashboard Action Items to not match the number of rows in the Unsigned Documents table when there were unsigned "Practice Documents" (which were previously not shown in the table, but were counted in the Action Item number).
July 17, 2024 Release
Group
- Group appointments will show the group name in Calendar Sync.
Measures
- Now the narrative for the Adult Symptom Screener will list the issues for which the items were not fully filled out so it is explicit that there was not enough information to suggest whether those issues are positive or negative.
Navigation Menu
- The side nav menu options and sub menu options are now ordered alphabetically with the exception of the Dashboard which will remain at the top of the list.
- Added a new Favorites menu option which allows users to add up to 20 favorite links.

Prospective Patient Management
- The "Provider Matching" table in Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients now includes an optional column that shows which providers work at the patient's preferred locations. Matching on available facilities will also impact the overall match score (i.e., providers who are available at one or more of the patient's preferred facilities will have a higher match score than those without).
- In Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients, it is now possible to update statuses and add Outreach records in bulk via the "Batch Action" menu.
- The UI display of Prospective Patient Forms was improved to better adapt to mobile browsers.
- A new “Documents” tab in Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients will allow intake teams to upload documents to attach to a prospective patient record. When the prospective patient is converted to a patient, any attached documents will carry forward into the chart. See the Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients article for more information.
Treatment Plan
- Now when a user is customizing a Treatment Plan Type they can preview what it will look like when the provider is filling out a treatment plan.
- Treatment Plan was enhanced to allow internal signers to sign the treatment plan directly from Tools | Treatment Plans, without having to go to the Patient Chart.
- Wiley Library Launch – Treatment Plan users are now able to add components from the Wiley PracticePlanners(R) Library for an additional licensing fee. See the Wiley PracticePlanners® Library for Treatment Plan article for details.
June 26, 2024 Release
Patient Communications
- The SMS fields in the Patient Communications tool now features a character counter for SMS fields, making it easier to plan messages effectively.
- Patient Communications Reminder Rules now have a viewable audit history.
- Patient Communications Reminder Rules now have a history column and button which can be clicked to view the audit history associated with each rule.
Patient Chart
- An issue was resolved where lab requests that included more than 20 labs did not display all labs on the printed lab slip.
Persons & Institutions | Patients
- An issue where the space between the area code and number was missing for phone numbers displayed in Persons & Institutions | Patients was resolved.
- An issue was resolved that prevented the drag-and-drop function to reorder Patient Notifications from working.
Prospective Patient Management
- Practices can now create custom statuses beyond the standard 'Active' and 'Inactive' options. For example, stages can be specified for active prospective patients (e.g., New → Contacted → Responded → Converted) and reasons can be defined for inactive prospective patients (e.g., Referred Out or Lost Contact). Existing statuses will remain unchanged.

Secure Messaging
- When composing a secure message, the sender will see a warning if the selected recipient is a patient without an active Portal/MYIO account. (They may optionally still choose to send the message, but the patient will not see it until/unless they complete Portal setup.)
Treatment Plan
- An issue which prevented a user from adding the same intervention to two different custom objectives in a treatment plan was resolved.
June 13, 2024 Release
AutoPay – Payment Plan
- Practices with Integrated Credit Card Processing now have the ability to set up a patient’s credit card with an automatic payment plan. See AutoPay Payment Plan article for details.
Billing - Insurance
- When adding insurance to the patient record the patient insurance type will be defaulted to Group. It will remain editable.
Billing - TIN
- ERA functionality has been enhanced to proactively notify users when the insurance company on a transaction is not associated with the Tax ID (TIN) in the ERA file. This prompt is in addition to the existing bold font of the transaction payer in the ERA page.
Custom Forms
- An issue was resolved that caused the custom forms due date to show a day early in the EHR.
Demographic Updates Queue
- Users will now see a pop up when accessing the patient's demographics letting them know if there is a pending Demographic Updates Queue entry.
- The Demographic Updates Queue will now only display fields that have been updated by the patient.
- The Demographic Updates Queue now only displays entries based on the patient's chart segmentation configuration via Persons & Institutions | Patients | Care Teams | Access.
ICD-9
- Legacy ICD-9 columns were removed from the Diagnosis tables.
Persons & Institutions | Patients
- The search field on the provider column in Persons & Institutions | Patients was sometimes not showing results that match the keyword search. This issue was resolved.
Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients
- To improve performance on the Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients page, custom fields no longer load into the table by default. Click the "Load Custom Fields" button to load them manually for the whole table. Clicking into a specific row will also immediately load the custom fields for that Prospective Patient.
Scheduler
- An issue was resolved that prevented the Conflicts tab from populating correctly when scheduling a recurring appointment if provider Availability was missing.
Treatment Plan
- A new configuration was added for Treatment Plan Types that allows users to have external signers (e.g., patients, guardians, guarantors) who are signing Via Email or Via Email/MYIO to sign right after the treatment plan owner signs instead of waiting for all internal signers (e.g., supervisor, other providers) to sign.
Web Editor
- An issue which prevented some provider details from appearing in the preview version of Web Editor documents was resolved.
May 22, 2024 Release
Custom Forms (replacing eSignature)
- Custom Forms has been enabled for all practices with Premium or Power subscriptions. See Custom Forms (replacing eSignature) Overview article for more details.
Billing - EasyNav
- An issue with the Easy Nav menu not working as expected when navigating to Transfer Patient payment page was resolved.
Multiple Insurance Tax ID Numbers
- Insurance companies can now have multiple Tax ID numbers (TIN). This will eliminate the need to edit the insurance TIN to post ERA files. See more information in ERA - Match Charge to Payment article.
- The System Report | Billing | Audit Log-ERA report filters now allow users to search by insurance or TIN.
Prospective Patient Management
- Persons & Institutions | Practice | Prospective Patients tab was updated so that all setup related to Prospective Patient Forms can be completed without needing to leave the page. Clicking the gear icons next to each step in the "Settings" section will open a dialog that includes all settings related to that step. (For example: the gear icon next to the Request for Services step allows for editing Treatment Types and Condition Types without navigating to the Reference Data pages.) See Prospective Patient Management Setup and Configuration article for more details.
- It is now possible to include multiple Custom Tabs in the Prospective Patient Forms. It is also now possible to include Custom Tabs that appear in Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients (for IO users to manage) but do not appear in the online forms (for the Prospective Patient to enter themselves). These settings are controlled via two new checkboxes in Tools | Manage Custom Tabs: "Show in Prospective Patient Forms" and "Show in Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients". More details are in the Manage Custom Tabs article.
Treatment Plan
- Tools | Treatment Plan now follows the same chart segmentation rules for patient access as other pages in Valant.
May 9, 2024 Release
Impersonation
- When a provider leaves the practice, another provider (such as their Clinical Director) can be granted permission to "Impersonate" the inactive provider. While impersonating, they will have access to everything the inactivated provider could access (such as unsigned notes and secure messaging inboxes), but any action they take will be stored in audit history with the user who actually took the action (the impersonator). For details, review the Inactive Provider Management article.
Mobile Notes
- An issue that caused the "Cannot be Supervisor for Mobile Notes" permission not to work when enabled as part of a role was resolved.
Treatment Plan
- Treatment Plan Notes allows providers who have new treatment plan to pull treatment plan content into any Mobile Note that contains the "Valant Treatment Plan" tab, indicate which components you addressed in the session, add comments, update progress on Goals and Objectives, and save that content to the treatment plan and to the note pdf. See more information in the Treatment Plan Notes article.
- Minor updates were made to the look of the treatment plan pdf to make it fit on fewer pages.
- Provider's Personal Library allows providers using Valant's new treatment plan to save their custom Problems, Goals, Objectives, and Interventions to a personal library so they can use them in the future. Available to use in treatment plans in which the Treatment Plan Type has Provider's Personal Library" selected on the "Content Library" tab. The Treatment Plan Content Libraries article contains more information.
- An issue which prevented diagnoses from appearing on treatment plan pdfs was fixed.
Scheduler
- An issue scheduling recurring appointments from a future state date was resolved.
April 25, 2024 Release
MYIO
- An issue with the MYIO app freezing when some users were selecting an Insurance during onboarding was resolved.
Persons & Institutions | Practice
- An issue where Appointment Categories disappeared when the display named was updated was resolved.
Portal Status Values
- Added more detailed portal status values that will better indicate what stage of the process the MYIO user is in. Upon release, some statuses may not have a date/time available. See more information in Persons & Institutions | Patients article.
Programs
- Now practices can create a list of "Programs" for tracking different lines of business in Valant. Patients can be assigned to one or more programs, and each appointment and charge can be associated with a program for reporting purposes. See Reference Data | Programs article for details.
April 10, 2024 Release
Availability Rules
- A new "Scheduling Rules" tab in Persons & Institutions | Providers | select a provider | Availability tab allows users to set “rules” to govern when specific types of appointments may or may not be scheduled. For example: Intake Appointments may be limited to certain days and times, or to a maximum number of appointments per day or week.
- In Persons & Institutions | Providers | select a provider | Treatment Profile tab, there is now a tab that allows users to mark which "Appointment Types" are not offered by the provider. Appointment Types marked as "Not Offered" will not appear as available when a scheduler, MYIO patient, or Prospective Patient uses the availability search tool to request an appointment.
- Persons & Institutions | Providers | Treatment Profile was split into sub-tabs for simplified navigation with less scrolling. A new tab was added for marking which Appointment Types a provider does not offer.

Fee Schedules and Financial Classes

Permissions by Role
- An issue that caused some Permissions by Roles to not appear on the initial save was resolved.
Reminders
- An issue that caused some final appointment reminders to be sent late was resolved. This occurred in a few instances where the practice time zone differed from the facility time zone.
Scheduler - Billing
- An issue with a poor performing query caused some receipt book receipts to generate blank.
System Reports
- An issue that caused the footer of reports generated in System Reports to omit Practice Name has been resolved.
Telehealth
- An issue that caused some telehealth sessions to time out after 60 minutes was resolved.
March 27, 2024 Release
Documents
- An issue was resolved that prevented users from configuring new eSignature documents.
- An issue that caused the Uninitialed Documents page to not load properly when accessed via the EasyNav menu or if there was no uninitialed documents was resolved.
DrFirst
- An issue was resolved which sometimes prevented launching DrFirst for newly added patients.
- An issue that caused a delay in medications appearing in Valant from DrFirst was resolved.
Mobile Notes
- An issue that sometimes caused the "Adult Symptom Screener" to generate narrative incorrectly was resolved.
MYIO
- An issue was resolved in which the page failed to load even when some patients received an "All Done" message when completing onboarding.
Patient Demographics
- An error with the "View All Patients" permission that caused some users not to be able to save changes made to demographics was resolved.
Persons & Institutions | Practice
- There is now a practice level setting to enable/disable sending statements to the MYIO portal. This will save practices multiple clicks when setting up a patient in IO. See Persons & Institutions | Practice article for more information.
Persons & Institutions | Providers
- The character limit for Provider First and Last Names was extended to the max allowed in claims (25 for First Name and 60 for Last Name).
Prospective Patient Management
- A link to the Prospective Patient Forms URL was added to Persons & Institutions | Prospective Patients to make it simple to access and share the link. Users with Admin Access permission will also see a clickable gear icon next to the link, which acts as a shortcut to the Prospective Patient settings page. - An issue that made it so users could not correctly create new or edit referral sources was resolved.
Scheduler
- An issue that prevented the horizontal scroll from showing on the calendar on the initial page load was resolved.
To Do’s
- An issue that caused the Patient ID search to not work as expected was resolved.
- An issue that caused all future To Do's to appear on the dashboard was resolved and further enhanced by allowing users to customize the filters shown.

Inactive Provider Access

This is controlled by the separate "Inactive" checkboxes on the "User Account" tab and the "Provider" tab in Persons & Institutions | Providers. Insurance Photo

Patient Chart
- An issue was resolved which sometimes prevented launching DrFirst for newly added patients.
Scheduler

Demographic Updates Queue
- An issue that caused some patient entries in the Demographic Updates Queue to be duplicated or unable to be opened was resolved.
Integrated Credit Card Processing
- There is a small change when adding credit card details for new payments, credit cards being added to the Card Manager, and patients adding credit card details in MYIO. See Integrated Credit Card Processing Update article for more details.
Log In
- An issue with the password expiration feature not prompting users to reset their password when it had expired was resolved.
Patient Chart
- When adding a new diagnosis through the "All Diagnoses" tab, there is now a checkbox for marking it as a "Billing Diagnosis" without needing to navigate to the Billing Diagnoses tab. See Diagnosis Management article for more details.
Permissions
- There is a new permission called "Manage User Accounts" which controls access to the "User Account" tab of both Office Staff and Providers. This permission was automatically given to all users with "Admin Access" permission to maintain access to the tab.
User Time Zone
- The common U.S. time zones are now listed at the top of the “Local Time Zone” drop-down options.

- An issue was resolved which incorrectly displayed an error that "Availability Times cannot overlap" when multiple waitlist entries were added for a single patient.

Account Settings
- There is a new page called Account Settings that will consolidate several other pages into one. The page will contain options to change login email, password, and access User Preferences. The Security Tab on the Account Settings page requires password entry to update the password or change the login email.
- The User Preferences page has been moved from the left-hand navigation menu to the Account Settings page.

Email Verification
- Email verification is now required to access Valant. All workarounds to access Valant without a verified email will not allow access to the system. See Valant User Login Email Verification FAQ for more information.
Mobile Notes
- The DSM IV Axis IV Diagnosis field was removed from Mobile Notes.
MYIO | Demographic Updates Queue
- The Demographic Updates Queue was updated to allow batch-saving demographic updates and saving insurance updates without the need to copy and paste. See the Demographic Updates Queue (DUQ) article for more information.
Permissions
- The Persons & Institutions permission has been broken out into more granular permissions. View or Edit access can now be granted at the page level for each page under the Persons & Institutions menu. (Exceptions: Insurance Companies and Practice, which do not have a view-only permission.)
