This article will guide users through the process of completing Logical Access Control (LAC) in Rcopia 4. See the Video Tutorial - ePrescribing: Logical Access Control article for more information.
Logical Access Control (LAC) is to be completed after a provider has accomplished the identity proofing process through the EPCS Gold Invite.
Administrator access is needed for LAC.
Navigating to LAC:
- Open a Patient's Chart, then click Medications from the left menu
- Click +New from the top right of the screen which opens Rcopia (DrFirst)
- Select Utilities from the upper left menu (three horizontal bars)
- Click “Logical Access Control (LAC)”
Only providers who have reached an EPCS “Enrolled” status will appear in the LAC screen. If a provider is missing from the LAC screen, their EPCS account is either disabled or they have yet to reach “Enrolled” status with the practice organization.
To complete LAC:
- In order for you to perform LAC, you will need to launch into your DrFirst account from Valant. Once you have launched in, you should be able to see the hover menu in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. (Only someone who is an Administrator will have the ability to complete LAC. The administrator needs to be in their own DrFirst account and must be a staff user.)
- When hovering over the menu in the upper left-hand corner, it should display all available menu options. You must select “Utilities.”
- Once you access the Utilities Menu, you will then see the “Logical Access Control (LAC)” option to select.
- The Logical Access Control screen will appear once the “Logical Access Control (LAC)” link has been selected. In some cases, sites may have a large list of providers who have been Enrolled with EPCS abilities. In that case, you may choose to search for the provider you are intending to activate by entering first name, last name, or NPI. Make sure the Grant status is set to "Active".
- Enter in your first and last name as it appears on your user account with DrFirst, in the “Granting Administrator” section.
- Enter the prescriber’s NPI number and hit the “Validate” button directly to the right of the NPI box.
- Once the NPI has been validated, there will be three fields that need to be filled in by the provider:
- The first one is the prescriber’s token device. This will automatically populate if only one token was added during the Registration process. If more than one token was added, then please select the appropriate token being used.
- Second, the prescriber will enter in their signing passphrase that was created during the EPCS Registration process.
- Lastly, the prescriber will need to provide the OTP (One Time Pin) that is generated from the token device selected. This is a six-digit code that is generated approximately every 30 seconds. Click Authorize.
- You will then be directed to click the Refresh button which will re-load the LAC page with the desired grant change(s). The provider’s EPCS grant has now been activated (Enrolled/Active) and the provider can start prescribing controlled substances electronically.
Once complete the provider will be able to electronically controlled substances.
