The E&M Time tab is a mobile note template that is available in the MASTER Progress Note - All Tabs & Measures AND MASTER Intake Note - All Tabs & Measures. The tab allows a provider to note start time, end time, and total time for each of 9 activities they might engage in on the calendar day of the encounter they are billing for. They can then choose to use time instead of medical decision making as the basis on which to choose the CPT code for billing. The list of activities includes:
- Preparing to see the patient (e.g., review of tests)
- Obtaining and/or reviewing separately obtained history
- Performing a medically appropriate examination and/or evaluation
- Counseling and educating the patient/family/caregiver
- Ordering medications, tests, or procedures
- Referring and communicating with other health care professionals (when not separately reported)
- Documenting clinical information in the electronic or other health record
- Independently interpreting results (when not separately reported) and communicating results to the patient/family/caregiver; and/or
- Care coordination (when not separately reported).
